Avoid automatic connection with FON Spot

Symptoms:

  • Whenever you try using the internet you get redirected to the FON Spot captive portal.
  • You want to use the private 'MyPlace' WiFi signal of your Fonera or any other WiFi signal, but your PC automatically connects to the 'FON_...' public signal.

Explanation:
This happens because you've previously connected to the public signal, and the WiFi Manager of your operating system remembers this network as one of your 'preferred networks'.


Solution:
For Windows XP: Access your WiFi Manager and manually remove this connection from you list of preferred WiFi networks or change the setting from 'automatic' to 'manual' by manually pressing the "disconnect" button when connected to the "not preffered" network. It will then switch to 'manual'
