BT FON

BT FON is an initiative between BT and FON that aims to give all its members access to wireless broadband wherever they are in the world. This is possible because all BT FON members agree to securely share a portion of their WiFi bandwidth through a separate channel on their wireless router with other members who are in range of their wireless router. These wireless routers become known as "BT FON hotspots".

Joining BT FON

There are two ways to join the BT FON Community. Which is best for you depends on who your Internet service provider (ISP) is.

  1. If you are a BT Total Broadband subscriber, you just need to opt in to the service here.
  2. Non BT customers who have broadband at home can join the community by installing and registering a La Fonera+ router.

  • Note: Active users in the UK will be credited with the equivalent value of 120-minutes of Internet on consumption at commercial BT Openzone hotspots. For more information about this special promotion click here

Known issues and Troubleshooting

I have credit left in my account but each time I use the "Launch Browser" button I'm asked to log-in again

We have noticed that sometimes when a user re-connects to a BTFON Spot is trapped on login loop.

These are the symptoms:

1. Enter username and password then press login
2. Shows user is already logged in. Proceed and press "Launch Browser".
3. The launched window/tab is a blank login page. Same as in (1.)

Workaround:

If this ever happens to you, please log in again. This second time your FON login details will be passed to our partner (BT) and you will be able to surf the web:

1. Log in a second time at this new login page.
2. Log in as you did before; choosing "FON" and entering your FON account details
3. Finally use the "Launch Browser" button to start surfing

How to connect and use Premium BTOpenzone hotspots through FON

To use a Premium BTOpenzone hotspot as a FON member you will need FON WiFi Credit availabe in your FON account.
