Connect through LAN Ethernet ports
Connect your computer to one of the LAN ports of the Fonera using an Ethernet cable. You can use the following pictures to locate LAN ports on your Fonera:
Note: On the first Fonera there is no LAN port, you can only access the internet using the private wireless signal that it broadcast.
Connect through the private wireless signal
The default name of the private wireless signal of the Fonera is MyPlace. You can change this SSID (name of the signal) and all the options related to it from the Settings Menu located on the dashboard of the Fonera.
Click on 'MyPlace' from the list of available WiFi networks in the wireless manager of your device, and connect to it.
You will be prompted for a password. By default it is the serial number (S/N) written on the sticker of your Fonera. In the case of the Fonera 2.0n it is the 'WPA Passphrase' as well written on the sticker on the side of the device.
Troubleshooting
My Apple computer refuses to connect in 802.11n mode (WiFi N)
In the Private Wireless Settings of your Fonera it might be necessary to use AES instead of TKIP to allow you Mac to connect in WiFi N mode.
Whenever I try to connect to the Internet my FON credentials are required
You want to use the private 'MyPlace' WiFi signal of your Fonera or any other WiFi signal, but you've previously connected to the public signal, and the WiFi Manager of your operating system remembers this network as one of your 'preferred networks'.
For Windows XP: Access your WiFi Manager and manually remove this connection from you list of preferred WiFi networks or change the setting from 'automatic' to 'manual' by manually pressing the "disconnect" button when connected to the "not preffered" network. It will then switch to 'manual'
My private wireless signal is set to WEP and I can't connect to it
To connect to the private wireless signal when the encryption is set to WEP, you have to select: WEP 40/128bit key and Shared Key for authentication.
