Searching for a FON Hotspot near you…
By filling out general information and selecting “Find”, you will be able to locate the nearest FON Spots anywhere in the world.
Refining Your Search
You may select which functions you want use to refine your search for the most convenient FON Spot near you. Be sure to pay attention closely to the different options. A very useful one may be the "Active FON Spots in the last hour" option since it will give you all the FON Spot which are online in the last hour.
Zooming in and out
Scroll in a direction to see more of the map, or zoom in a region by using the magnifying glasses (when available).
Important Note: Magnifying glasses does not necessary appear when FON Spots are available in a certain location but they are rather shown in order to indicate a Town, City or other region.

Clicking on the "Tools" item in the left menu of the FON maps, you get some more extra features.
Nearest FON Spot from center
This will give you a list with the FON Spots next to your position(from the center of the map) and will show them with a green pin.
Send this map to a friend
Here you can send a link to the map sector you're viewing to a friend. This may be utile if you want to show the progress of FON Spots in your city to someone, or even to bookmark an area you visit often.
POIs - download the FON Spots for your navigation device
Format = defines what format outputted file should be. Possible values are:
- KML = Google maps-format
- CSV = Simple comma-separated list of coordinates
- GPX = GPS Exchange format (http://www.topografix.com/gpx.asp)
- OV2 = Overlay2-format, TomTom-gps navigator specific
- Remark : We advise you to open/save these files using poiedit.com hence the files hardly get read 100% without errors in eg Garmin and other GPS devices due to high-ascii usage
- Remark 2 : The OV2 file that FON creates is not 100% accurate. Tutorial_POI_TomTom Best is to use the CSV file and make it TomTom Compliant.
A known issue: The downloaded 'POIs' files from the FON Maps may be empty
More functions in the maps
Selecting a FON Spot
The Fonero Info box appears whenever you select a FON Hotspot on our Map Website. Inside the box you will see the following…
-The Fonero’s Nickname -The address of which FON Spot you selected. -The “Share Location” function -The Internal Messaging function -The Fonero’s Personal Profile also known as the “View FON Spot” function
Sharing a FON Spot Location
The “Share Location” option allows you to send the location of this FON Spot to any of your friends who may want to access FON at this given location.
The email contains a link which will route anyone to the specific location that you found.
Messaging System
The messaging system allows you to send a message to any another Fonero’s profile. To be able to do this, you must first be logged in. Then you select the desired FON Spot which you wish to contact. After selecting the FON Spot and selecting “send message”, a window should open.
Here you may select any subject from “Thank you for sharing your internet!” to “Your FON Spot is not available”, etc. Once the message is written and sent, it will appear in the FON Spot owner’s My Fon Zone.

The “View FON Spot” function allows you to view the Fonero’s personal profile for that Hotspot. From here they can share a favorite Website link, to a favorite video, or a way to communicate to them.
