FON Spot
From FON Wiki Beta
A FON Spot is a WiFi Hotspot created by a person who has installed a La Fonera router in his home café, etc. FON Spots can be located using our Maps. To be able to connect to one you need a WiFi capable device with a web browser i.e. a laptop, a phone or a PDA (tested devices) or a device with a FON connection manager. In addition as soon as you buy a Fonera from our online shop you are granted 3 weeks of free connection to all FON Spots world wide!

How to connect to a FON Spot
Using a PC or Mac
- All FON Spot signals start with “FON_...” followed by the customised WiFi signal name given by their owner (FON_Jim_hotspot, FON_CafeRio, etc). When you see a FON Spot public signal in the list of available WiFi networks in the WiFi manager of your device, connect to it.
- Open your web browser (IE, Firefox, Opera…) and go to any website i.e. www.wikipedia.org. You will then be forwarded to the FON Captive Portal. Some pages, such as www.google.com, are white listed and will be shown without the need to login. The google site will disappear, however, as soon you try to open a non white listed site, and you will be redirected to the Captive Portal.
- If you are already sharing your internet connection (through FON), now it's really easy. Simply log in with your FON user data (email and password) and start enjoying free WiFi.
- If you are not yet sharing your internet connection you will have to use a FON Pass
Using a mobile device
- When you see a FON Spot signal (something like 'FON_...') in the list of available WiFi networks in the WiFi manager of your device, connect to it.
- Start the browser application and go to any website. You will then be forwarded to FON's mobile captive portal.
- Current mobile captive portal only allow users already sharing their Internet connection (Linuses and Bills) to connect.
- If you are not yet sharing your internet connection you will have to use the "standard" captive portal by selecting the "Buy WiFi access here" link.
