FTP Server Configuration

The Fonera 2.0 ships a FTP server, which allows to upload or download files across networks. You will be able to access wirelessly the files of the USB drive connected to the Fonera.

Before Getting Started

File Server Menu
  • By default the FTP Server option is disabled. You have to enable it in the Fileserver menu.
  • You will as well need a software on your computer that support FTP file transfers. This wikipedia page will help you to choose the FTP client that suits your need.
  • Make sure to have followed the guidelines regarding USB storage use before proceeding.



Connect to Fonera's FTP server

While connected to the Private Signal or from a LAN port of the Fonera

From your FTP client connect to the host fonera, you will be prompted for credentials:

  • The username is fonero and cannot be changed
  • The password is the general password of your Fonera, the one used to access the dashboard. Default one is admin

You will then be able to browse the USB disks connected to the Fonera.

While connected from the WAN side of your Fonera

You might want to access Fonera's FTP server from the WAN side of your Fonera (eg: from a computer connected directly to your broadband router):

Check IP of the WAN interface
  • From the dashboard of your Fonera check the WAN IP of your Fonera, i.e. the IP that your broadband router has given to your Fonera. It is written in the bottom left box: bellow Internet connection in front of IP Address (eg: 192.168.1.146). Write this IP down.
  • From the dashboard of your Fonera, in Settings >> Firewall >> Application enable the access to FTP Server from WAN. More details here if needed.
  • From your FTP client enter the WAN IP you wrote down. You will be prompted for credentials: the username is fonero and cannot be changed, the password is the general password of your Fonera, the one used to access the dashboard. Default one is admin


You will then be able to browse the USB disks connected to the Fonera.

While connected from another Internet access

You might want to access Fonera's FTP server from the Internet (eg: from the house of a friend):

  • Make sure to have correctly set Dynamic DNS in your Fonera. More details here if needed.
  • From the dashboard of your Fonera, in Settings >> Firewall >> Application enable the access to FTP Server from WAN. More details here if needed.
  • From your FTP client enter your DDNS domain (eg: myfonera.dyndns.com). You will be prompted for credentials: the username is fonero and cannot be changed, the password is the general password of your Fonera, the one used to access the dashboard. Default one is admin


You will then be able to browse the USB disks connected to the Fonera.


Troubleshooting

Can I create other user on Fonera's FTP server and grant them access

Unfortunately this feature is not supported yet. The only user available on the FTP is fonero. Neither its name nor its rights can be modified.

Can I allow anonymous access to Fonera's FTP server

Unfortunately this feature is not supported.

Can the FTP server be configured to allow more than 2 concurrent connections

Unfortunately this feature is not supported yet. But people using Vista might like to check this Microsoft Support page.
