Fonera 2.0g

Fonera 2.0g Failsafe mode (Actual screen might vary a little between versions)

The Fonera 2.0g contains a second (smaller) firmware, which will be booted in failsafe mode. This firmware does not provide any of the normal services like internet routing, the dashboard or applications, but serves a single purpose: Allowing you to replace the main firmware with a working one.

How to get a Fonera 2.0g in failsafe mode

A Fonera might automatically boot into failsafe mode when a firmware update was interrupted before the end of the process, or when an invalid firmware image was uploaded to the Fonera.

Alternatively, you can force the fonera into failsafe mode by holding the reset button (on the bottom of the device) while powering it up. Press the button before plugging in the power and hold it for around 5 to 15 seconds.

When a Fonera 2.0g is in failsafe mode

  • The wireless and power LEDs are both blinking in orange, it means that the Fonera is in failsafe mode.
  • The only SSID broadcasted by the Fonera is 'FON_ATTENTION_PLEASE_CONNECT'.

Steps to restore a Fonera 2.0g firmware

  1. Download the latest firmware in 'tar.gz' format: http://download.fonosfera.org/LATEST/ The content of tar.gz firmware file should not be extracted.
  2. Connect to your Fonera. It is recommended to use a wired connection to the computer port, but you can also connect to the WiFi signal FON_ATTENTION_PLEASE_CONNECT (make sure that you don't connect both wired and wireless at the same time).
  3. Type the following in the address bar of your navigator: http://192.168.1.1
  4. User is 'admin', the password is the serial number (S/N) written beneath the Fonera
  5. Browse your computer's hard drive for the tar.gz file that you previously downloaded, then and click on 'upgrade'.
  6. During the next 30 minutes do not disconnect the power cable of the Fonera. When the process is completed, the Fonera will reboot and be ready for use. The Fonera might not tell you it's rebooted and the page might keep loading indefinitely, so keep an eye on the leds to see when it rebooted.
