General

Networking

  • Bridging between WAN -> Myplace/LAN
    • To have no double NAT
    • To have 1 network neighbourhood (so we don't have to work with IP adresses to connect to pc's located between broadband router and fonera2)
    • To be able to access to the LAN services when you are connected to MyPlace
  • Possibility to have 1 central FON_FREE_INTERNET dhcp server...so people can "roam" between several foneras placed in our street and thus not suddenly get a "your twin is not allowed" when 1 fonera is too close to another fonera
  • web based MAC/IP binding configuration for the DHCP server : Normally the DHCP server gives the IP address within the order (first connected gets first IP from the range, ...) and keeps this binding in /tmp/dhcp.leases, reused if the user is re-connecting. But if the Fonera reboots and the users connect in a different order, they will not be assign the same IP then before rebooting. This could be an inconvenient when using port fowarding with DHCP (non-static IP).
  • Use Multiple WAN, and act as a Load Balancer router
  • USB Networking for USB network devices/cards
  • IPv6
  • NDAS support
  • AFP/Netatalk for (1) be browseable by macs as a regular volume, (2) Time Machine support, just as [2]

Filtering / DNS

  • OpenDns support...to prevent "phishing"
  • Snort_inline, Dansguardian (http://packetprotector.org/) to protect fon_Free_internet against malivolent use

Backup

  • Possibilty to schedule backups for connected pc's for specific folders with other connected pc's or with attached network drives.
  • Raid system to sync multiple hd's when attached.
  • Possibilty to schedule rsync backups from Linux system.
  • Apple's Time Machine support. See Networking above.

Wireless

  • Possibility to change from WPA-Personal/tkip to Wpa-Enterprise/tkip and configure a radius server; hence to be more secure!
  • Meshing... Incorporate Batman client as "failover" internet gateway and "repeater" backend... so if lot's of fonero's live close together they can survive a problem with their operator.... eg if Adsl is down due to a phonecable breach...the cable isp users can help their adsl neighbour. an example can be found at Robin (ponte2 had a batman option)

Portal

  • The possibility to share resources towards FON_FREE_INTERNET users and also show them somehow on the captive portal.
    • Eg webcam (weather cam?), a sambashare on our usb stick to give access to eg Antivirus/WSUS/..., ...

Download Clients

  • not only have Bittorrent support but also aMule support
    • Amule P2P
    • Usenet/NZB downloadclient support
  • torrents via RSS Feed

UPnP

  • universal plug&play support: with "portforwarding" we can only let 1 user play world of warcraft... but with upnp we can allow our whole family play WoW without needing help from eg www.portforward.com

Bluetooth

  • Bluetooth Access Point (for both DUND and PAND server functionality)
  • Asterisk PBX (VOIP) with Bluetooth (not only wifi voip but also bluetooth cellphones?), Fax and Skype support

Miscellaneous

  • Francofon/Freewlan "signed" for La Fonera Classic so they can be installed on Classic La Fonera using "firmware upgrade" mechanism instead of Jailbreak mechanism
  • the ability to compile fon_ng to linksys-fon, fon classic, fonera+
  • automatic restart on given times if no user is connected
  • Sunny Beam usb package to read our Photovoltaic installation without pc and upload it to internet
  • Weatherstation logging without the need of a PC

Save / Restore internet connection settings during upgrades

During upgrades the PPPoE internet connection settings are lost, so remote upgrade is not possible. Would be nice to save the following settings and restore after the upgrade: Internet connection type, PPPoE username, password, dyndns account settings. This way a remote installation will be able to re-connect to the internet and report the IP to dyndns.org, so the remote access will be possible again.
