Hardware Reset
From FON Wiki Beta
Please read these instructions carefully. A wrongly executed reset can damage the firmware of the La Fonera.
- A hardware reset may be required if the 'La Foneras' behaviour isn't as it should be. We suggest that you contact the Support Team first, however.
- A hardware reset may be also required, if you have lost the password of the Management Console (standard user and password is admin/admin) and the settings of the La Fonera do not allow the router to connect to the Internet so you can't change it from your My FON user zone
La Fonera+
- Unplug the ethernet cable from the La Fonera.
- Plug the power cable into the La Fonera, please wait until and Power light is stops flickering and is on, and WLAN light is flickering (Note: the WLAN light usually take 2 minutes to start flickering.)
- Please use a PEN or PAPER CLIP to press the reset button located on the Fonera's base. When you press the RESET button, the WLAN light should be off, and only the POWER light is should be on. Please press for 30 seconds.
- If you press the button less then 30 seconds, the fonera will just reboot, but not 'reset'.
- If you press the button 30-60 seconds. The POWER light will go off for a short time, and the router will reboot itself. Please release the button at the moment of the POWER light is off.
- After you release RESET button, the WLAN light will flicker again after a few minutes. In the meantime, DO NOT TURN OFF or UNPLUG the La Fonera.
- After the WLAN light starts flickering again, the La Fonera is back to it's default factory configuration:username/password of the Management console are admin/admin, the WPA key is the serial number (S/N: on the sticker below the La Fonera) and the SSIDs are called 'MyPlace' and 'FON_AP'
- Check if you can connect to 'MyPlace' and if you can access the Management Console. Check if everything is back to its default value, so you can see whether or not the reset has been a success.
- If you need special configuration settings (like 'static IP's' or 'PPPoE settings') please change these now.
- Power off the La Fonera, and plug it in again Ethernet cable.
- Switch on the La Fonera.
- Now the La Fonera is booting. As it is running with the default firmware it will download the latest firmware version as soon the internet connection is established(the update can take up to 45 minutes, please do not interrupt process, as it will definitely damage the La Fonera).
- During the update the WLAN and Internet LEDs will switch on and off a couple of times. The FON_AP signal may appear sometimes, but you won't be able to connect.
- When the process has ended, both signals appear continuously and you will be able to connect to both of them.
- Finally log in at fon.com with your FON account details (email/password) to access your My FON (userzone). Once there, change anything on the router's settings, i.e.: change the private or public SSID and save the changes.
- Note: Last step on this process is very important as it will update your La Fonera to the latest firmware version, skipping this might leave your La Fonera+ router running an outdated Firmware version. You can always undo the changes leaving them as they were.

- Check if you can connect to 'MyPlace' and if you can access the Management Console. Check if everything is back to its default value, so you can see if the reset has succeed.
