From the Web Interface

Firmware Update

Fonera 2.0n and Fonera 2.0g have a button to restore factory settings from the web interface.

  • From the dashboard click on Settings then Advanced and finally on Factory default
  • You will be asked to confirm, then the Fonera will reboot.
  • Once rebooted the Fonera web interface will be accessible from the LAN port when browsing http://fonera
  • Or from the MyPlace private wireless signal, using the WPA password written on Fonera's sticker (or the S/N in the case the Fonera 2.0g). Then the dashboard will be available from http://fonera
  • The configuration wizard will be launched again. The default password is admin it is strongly advised to change it for a stronger one.
  • Ignore the warning asking you to register your Fonera if you previously did it.

Using Reset Buttons

  • Ignore the warning asking you to register your Fonera if you previously did it.

Fonera and Fonera+

The way the Fonera and the Fonera+ works make the process of restoring factory settings slightly delicate. It can only be performed through the reset buttons. Please read these instructions carefully. A wrongly executed reset can damage the firmware of the Fonera.

  • A hardware reset may be required if the Fonera behavior isn't as it should be. However, we suggest that you contact FON Support first.
  • A hardware reset may be also required, if you have lost the password of the Management Console (standard user and password is admin/admin) when the settings of the La Fonera do not allow the router to connect to the Internet preventing you to change it from your My FON user zone

Fonera+

  • Unplug both Ethernet cable of the Fonera.
  • Connect the power cable to the Fonera, please wait for the Power light stops flickering and stays ON, and for the WLAN light to blink (Note: the WLAN light usually takes 2 minutes to start blinking)
  • Use a pen or paper clip to press the reset button located beneath the Fonera. When you press the reset button, the WLAN light should turn off, and only the POWER light is should be on. Hold the button during 30 seconds.
    • If you press the button less than 30 seconds, the Fonera will just reboot, but not 'reset'.
    • If you press the button 30-60 seconds. The POWER light will go off for a short time, and the router will reboot. Please release the button the moment the POWER light goes OFF.
  • When releasing the reset button, the WLAN light will flicker again after a couple of minutes. In the meantime, do not disconnect power cable of the Fonera.
  • When the WLAN light starts flickering again, the Fonera is back to it's default factory configuration: username/password of the management console are admin/admin, the WPA key is the serial number (S/N: on the sticker beneath the Fonera) and the SSIDs are called 'MyPlace' and 'FON_AP'
  • Check if you can connect to the MyPlace wireless signal and if you can access the management console from http://192.168.10.1 Check if everything is back to its default value, so you can see whether or not the reset has been successful.
  • Power off the Fonera, and plug it again to the Ethernet cable providing Internet access.
  • Switch on the Fonera. As it is running with the default firmware it will download the latest firmware version as soon the internet connection is established. The update can take up to 45 minutes. No matter what, do not disconnect power cable while updating it would damage the Fonera.
  • During the update the WLAN and Internet LEDs will switch on and off a couple of times. The wireless signals may appear sometimes, if you are able to connect to them you might experience disconnections.
  • Once this process ends, both signals will appear continuously and you will be able to connect to both of them.
  • Finally log in at fon.com with your FON account details (email/password) to access your My FON (userzone). Once there, change anything on the router's settings, i.e.: change the private or public SSID and save the changes.
  • This last step of this process is very important as it will update your Fonera to the latest firmware version, skipping this might leave your La Fonera+ router running an outdated Firmware version. You can always undo the changes leaving them as they were.

Note: When you restore the factory settings of a Fonera+, a message warning you that it hasn't been registered appears in the management console. If you have already register your Fonera please ignore this message.

Fonera

  • Unplug the Ethernet cable from the La Fonera.
  • Press the reset button located beneath the Fonera and hold it down for 15 to 20 seconds (no more). Use a pen or a paper clip to do so.
  • The original firmware will be loaded from a second storage area inside the Fonera. This process takes a couple of minutes to complete. Do not switch off the Fonera during this process.
  • Now, the Fonera is back to its default factory configuration: username/password of the Management console are admin/admin, the WPA key is the serial number (S/N: on the sticker beneath the Fonera) and the SSIDs are called 'MyPlace' and 'FON_AP'
  • Check if you can connect to 'MyPlace' wireless signal and if you can access the Management Console at http://192.168.10.1 Check if everything is back to its default value, so you can see whether or not the reset has been successful.
