Tele2

  • KPN Adsl provider active in Belgium & Netherlands
  • They resell the Tele2 easybox for 79 euro (sometimes promotion for FREE)
  • It's a "locked down" Speedtouch 706wl modem
    • 1 rj11 adsl uplink
    • 2 rj45 lan ports
    • 1 rj11 voip connector
  • Since a few years you can only connect using "tele2/tele2" as user/pwd
  • The modem gives 192.168.1.254/24 as ipadresses; the modem itself is manageable as 192.168.1.254
  • The tele2 wifi is by default enabled and not secure (wlan led will be red instead of green)
    • We advise to "disable the tele2 wifi or make it secure...
      • If you have Freewlan configured on your Fonera Classic, you could enable bridging and give MyPlace (fonera) and Tele2 wifi thesame SSID; they will both use thesame dhcp range... if not we advise to disable the tele2 wifi...it's not "better"
    • If you "reset" the tele2 modem it will reactivate the wifi without any security!!!
  • You can connect a fixed pc to the lan1 of the Tele2 modem and a Fonera classic to the 2nd lan port
    • The reason for the 2 ports is that if you "hack" the tele2 modem you could use it as a "router" (lan2lan) for eg Cable or Fiber networks and disabling the internal adsl (rj11) port section of the modem
  • Tele2 offers a FUP.... you can download hundreds of gigabytes and not receive an email from Tele2. This is a very good ISP to share your (wireless) internet with

Fonera configuration

  • Only via LAN (Fonera+, Fonera 2.0) or MyPlace you can access the adsl modem (192.168.1.254)
    • No tests have been conducted if someone can access it from the "public side"
  • The Fonera models will connect without any issue to the tele2 modem
  • The tele2 modem is "unstable" when you use P2P torrent/donkey/mules (software that makes lot's of connections)
    • Tele2 website advertises to reboot your Tele2 modem when you have problems prior to calling them
    • Tele2 website advertises to push the reset button when you have problems connecting to your adsl
    • Tele2 has had some issues with their VOIP recently making all your outgoing calls become "busy" although your correspondents are awaiting your call... and unable to call you (the Correspondent you are trying to reach is unavailable right now)
    • The Tele2 modem has a dhcp which broadcasts itself (192.168.1.254) as internal DNS. this DNS is most of the time NOT WORKING.
      • We advise to configure the "fonera" on the Tele2 managment website (192.168.1.254) to allways give it thesame IP
      • We advise to configure the "fonera" with a static ip on the fonera managment website (192.168.10.1) and configure it as :
192.168.1.xx (ip of the La Fonera)
255.255.255.0 (broadcast/netmask)
192.168.1.254 (gateway)
208.67.220.220 (opendns)
  • All your MyPlace&FON_AP users will then use OpenDNS and be more stable than those that use 192.168.1.254 as dns adres
