Known Issues and their Work Around
I have credit left in my account but each time I use the "Launch Browser" button I'm asked to log-in again
We have noticed that sometimes when a user re-connects to a BTFON Spot is trapped on login loop.
These are the symptoms:
Workaround:
If this ever happens to you, please log in again. This second time your FON login details will be passed to our partner (BT) and you will be able to surf the web:
How can I change the email address associated to my FON account?
Due to the fact your email address serves as unique id for your account it is not possible to change it, what we suggest is to:
- Create a new FON account associated to the email address you want by filling this form).
- If you have one (or more) La Fonera router, please contact a Customer Care representative with the following information ready:
- Your router’s MAC ID (found at the bottom of the router or in your user zone (MyFON)) - Your old FON account (email address) - Your new FON account (registered email address)
This is necessary information for our representatives to reassign your router(s) to your new FON account. Here you get information about how to contact Customer Care representatives.
Important advice for Bills: If there is WiFi money in your piggy bank, this money can't be transfered to the new account. So we recommend you to stay with your old account, till you get payed out. You can create the new account already, so you will get newsletters and other interesting information
Our Support Team member will assign the router to the new account. You will have to register it again after that. As it's already assigned to your account, you simply have to log in at www.fon.com and you will get the register form for your La Fonera.
Some other things to keep in mind:
- We don't want to tell you the email you should use. But if you have to change the email because you changed the ISP or job, think about using a freemail provider, so you won't lose this email again.
- Remember you can use Gmail addresses without logging in at the FON Spots.
PayPal accounts with dash("-")
If you try to register a La Fonera as Bill with a PayPal account including a dash (like name-surname@me.com) you will get an error message. Sorry about that, but there is an easy work around:
- Register as Linus
- When the registration finished, goto "MyFON > My Personal Info > Change FON Profile". Here you can change your status and the PayPal account with dash will be accepted.
Already registered La Fonera+ appearing with a non-registered status in the management console
A La Fonera+ that has been manually reset will display a warning message indicating that it hasn't been registered yet, even if it has been registered already. If you have already registered it please disregard this message since it continues to be registered to your account.
My La Fonera+ is running an old Firmeare version
If you manually resetted your La Fonera+ router at any point, it is important that you complete all steps for the reset process.
The MAC Address online is slightly different to the one found on my router
If you look at your router information in your My FON at fon.com, you will notice that the MAC ID is different (last number) to the one found at the bottom of the router.
This is nothing to be worried about. Both MAC IDs are associated with the same router. The MAC ID in your My FON is associated with the FON_ signal. This MAC ID includes information such as who has connected to your FON Spot, which FON Spots you’ve connected to in the past, and your FON Spot’s status.
The MAC ID found at the bottom of your La Fonera router refers to the LAN port and is assigned to your purchase and warranty information. We use this MAC ID when you request a refund, replacement, or anything else involving the FON Shop.
My FON Spot is not being displayed on the FON Maps
If for any reason after registering the router it is not showed in the maps tool go to My FON > configure FON router and then simply drag and drop your spot through the supplied map and save the changes.
If this doesn't change anything, enter a totally different address (i.e. a friend's address) and save the changes. If this succeeds, re-enter your own location. Now it should appear.
I'd like to purchase the La Fonera (or any other gadget) at the online shop, but I get a "Region not valid" error
We have detected that some times the "Region" drop-down menu is not generated (or remains blank) at the Personal Information page (when you are requested to enter a Billing and a Shipping address), and a text box is showed instead.
If this ever happens, please close your browser (completely), open it again and go through the purchase process again. This time, the Region drop-down menu should be there.
The downloaded 'POIs' files from the FON Maps are empty
Use the second download link provided by the system and use the suggested method (right click on the link and select 'save as' ) -> see screenshot beside
Additionally you may want to use FrancoFON's POIs application available here
FON Maps does not work with IE6
The Maps tool has been tested with Firefox 2.0, Opera, IE 7 and Safari. FON Maps will not work with IE 6.
Changing WiFi mod from 'b/g mixed' to 'b only' does not work
We are aware of the issue and will work to resolve it on one of the next firmware updates. There should not be many mobile devices needing such a configuration.
I get the message that I should watch the video to get 10 minutes of free access. However no video is displayed. Why is this happening?
The latest version of IE7 does not support the WiFi ads feature.
To workaround this, upgrade your Internet Explorer version (to IE8) or simply download/use a different browser i.e.: Firefox
- Remember: The WiFi Ads can be used by Foneros once every 10 days.
I can't send FON Mail messages out of the FON Maps
If you're using the Internet Explorer 7, this is a known bug. Please try out another browser like the Firefox or send the messages out of your 'Message Section' in you My FON User zone.
