The Management Console of the La Fonera and the La Fonera+ are pretty similar. From there you will be able to change all the advanced parameters of the Fonera that are not available for change in your My FON (user zone).

Accessing the Management Console

Using WiFi or La Fonera+

  1. You will need to connect your computer to the private WiFi signal or if you have a La Fonera+: you can also connect to the LAN port with an Ethernet cable.
  2. Then open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.) and go to http://192.168.10.1

Default user name and password are 'admin' and 'admin'

Using Cable with La Fonera

If you have a La Fonera and for some reason you can't connect to the management console through the private WiFi signal, you can also connect with an Ethernet cable but you will have to configure your network card with the following settings:

IP address: 169.254.255.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: (leave blank)
Preferred DNS server: (leave blank)
Alternate DNS server: (leave blank)

More information here

Then open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.) and go to http://169.254.255.1 Default user name and password are 'admin' and 'admin'

NOTE : If windows does not get a DHCP reply in time (about 30s) it will automatically mention "connected to limited network" and then you can also connect to the La Fonera on 169.254.255.1

Pages of the Management Console

Status Page

Here you can get all the information you need about your La Fonera. Under 'Internet Connection' is displayed what IP settings are set on the router side of your La Fonera.

Public Wifi settings

Here you can only set the Public SSID of your Fonspot. You can't change the first 4 characters, they are always "FON_".

Private Wifi settings

Private Wifi settings. Here you can change the settings of your private WLAN interface. You can set the SSID, encryption type and encryption keys on this page.

Password Change

Here you can setup the administrator password. Default user name and password are 'admin' and 'admin'.

Language Setting

Here you can set the management console interface language.

Internet Connection Settings

On this page you can select the type of internet connection you want to use. The default setting (DHCP) is what is the most commonly needed but if you need this is where you can:

Advanced Network Settings

WARNING! It is advised to stick with default settings here. Your computer might not be able to connect to the La Fonera anymore when you have submit changes. Here you can change the IP address private WLAN. Do not set one that interfere with your wired network (i.e. Fonera: 192.168.1.1 & router 192.168.1.1 wont work). You can also disable the DHCP server on this network if you want to. And finally you can set the firewall rules to allow/deny traffic between the three network segments of the La Fonera: Public, Private & WAN.

Advanced Wireless Settings

On this screen you can set the WLAN channel and the wireless mode to use. You can choose one of 11 channels, or automatic in which case the La Fonera picks the quietest channel. You can also force the La Fonera to use B or G mode only in case your WLAN client doesn't work properly if you select auto mode.

Port Forwarding

Here you can set some port forwardings. This allows you to run some wireless servers on your private network. These settings are a bit useless if you run your La Fonera behind your own broadband router, unless you're running very special internet software which requires this feature on the router.

Firmware Upgrade

WARNING! The FON Router firmware gets updated automatically. Do not update it unless Customer Care recommends you to do so (incorrectly upgrading the La Fonera/La Fonera+ by yourself may cause it to cease to function completely). This page allows you to upgrade La Fonera firmware. You will probably never need this; if you ever think you do please follow the instructions on the firmware update page.
