What is roaming?

Roaming is a general term in wireless telecommunications that refers to the extending of connectivity service in a location that is different from the home location where the service was registered.

What is FON roaming?

FON roaming allows active Foneros to access the Internet at thousands FON Spots worldwide for free. Active Foneros will be able to roam for free, as long as they keep their La Fonera operational, providing a reliable FON Spot for other FON members.

What happens if my 'La Fonera' goes offline?

There are understandable reasons that may prevent your La Fonera from being operative for a short period of time:

  • Internet connection down.
  • Not having an Internet connection for the moment.
  • Need techinal assitance to bring 'La Fonera' online.

Above cases (and some more) can happen, and not necesarly mean you want to stop sharing, therefore we want you to maintain your free roaming privileges during a reasonable time, while you are able reconnect your La Fonera router. For this reason Foneros will keep their free roaming capabilities up to 30 days after their La Fonera goes offline.

In order to inform Foneros of their FON Spot being inactive FON has implemented the Stay Connected Reminder Email system. This way Foneros will be able to react and maintain their FON Spot available and keep their free roaming privileges.

After 30 days if the FON Spot continues to be inoperative Foneros will lose their roaming privileges.

How can get my roaming privileges back?

This is really easy just reconnect your La Fonera router and make sure it's shown as online in your MyFON (go through this checklist). Once your La Fonera is active again, after a couple of days your roaming privileges will be restored.
