FON Spot Menu

FON Spot Menu

This menu allows you to enable or disable the FON Spot functionality of your Fonera 2.0.

If you select 'Disable':

  • The Fonera 2.0 will not broadcast any public WiFi signal anymore. Consequently no members of the FON community will be able to connect to your Fonera anymore.
  • Since you are not sharing your Internet access with the FON community, your roaming privileges will be suspended. i.e. You will not be able to connect to FON Spots for free anymore.

You can change your mind any time, though you might have to wait a few days for your roaming privileges to be restored

Public Wireless Settings

  • Here you can set the Public SSID of your FON Spot. This is the name of the signal the other foneros will connect to.
  • You cannot change the first 4 characters, they are always 'FON_' so FON Spot's wireless signals are easily recognizable. We advise to stick to the default name as we noticed that it will bring more connections to your FON Spot!

Private Wireless Settings

  • Here you can change the settings of your private wireless interface. You can set the SSID (name of the signal), encryption type and encryption keys.
  • You should change the default WPA Passphrase for a more complex one to increase the security of private network.

Advanced Wireless Settings

  • Changing the channel on which your Fonera broadcasts its wireless signals for one which is not so busy might solve connectivity issues in some crowded environment. More details here.
